Dear Members,
Indian Association Shanghai will continue with the 3rd speech competition after a wonderful start and excellent participation from kids in 2018.
This year’s subject will be “Gandhi @150” or “India @70”. Participants should focus on key highlight points, and what should we focus more to build a better India for future.
· Date: 1st September, 2019, Sunday
· Time: 10:30 am to 01:30 pm, followed by light snacks and prize distribution ceremony.
· Venue: Indian Consulate Shanghai
To promote diversity of languages, we are allowing participants to speak in any Indian Language.
Any individual can participate in either of these three categories:
· Category A: 6-8 years
· Category B: 9-11 years
· Category C: 12+ years
Rules:
1. Each category consists of minimum 5 candidates. There is no upper limit.
2. Each Contestant will have 3 minutes for speech. 2:45 to 3:15 min will not affect their points.
3. Timing will begin with the contestant’s first definite verbal or nonverbal communication with the audience. This usually will be the first word uttered by the contestant.
4. An Alarm will ring after 02:45 minutes to indicate you to conclude the speech. The 2nd Alarm will ring at 03:15 minutes and the Contestant must conclude in 15 secs.
5. In the category C, a contestant will be disqualified if the speech is less than 02:15 minutes or more than 03:45 minutes. This rule does not apply to either Category A or Category B.
6. Each contestant shall research, develop and deliver his/her own original speech. Advice and coaching is allowed, and changes may be made to the speech at any time prior to the contest regardless of level. Any quoted, paraphrased, or referenced content must be so identified during the speech and should not be more than 20% of the Total speech.
7. Notes are allowed, but the speech shall not be read verbatim for Category C. Contestants are encouraged to remember the speech and have more eye contact with the Audience to score more points.
8. Audio/visual aids shall not be used with the presentation.
9. Each Contestant will be assigned a number and judges will do the scoring based on the assigned number.
10. Contestants shall not identify themselves, their city, state or school in the context of their speech.
11. Everyone must be seated through the competition and the assigned numbers will be called on random basis.
12. All decisions of the Judges are final. The actual scores will not be shared with the Contestants.
Prizes:
· Prizes will be awarded to contestants standing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each of the categories.
· Certificates will be awarded to each contestant in all of the categories.
