Developmental screeners help families become more aware of developmentally appropriate growth and development which allows children to have more meaningful interactions with the world around them.

A screening provides a quick look at how your child's skills are developing in the areas of communication, physical ability, social-emotional skills, and problem-solving skills. They are typically completed every 3, 6, or 12 months, and can help identify your child's strengths as well as any areas where your child may need more help or practice.

Who should get a developmental screening?

Any child from birth to 5 1/2 years old should regularly participate in developmental screenings. If you do not receive one from your school or pediatrician, Bright Futures can help you monitor your child's development. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests screenings for all children at 9 months, 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months.
