The main motive of this T-shirt is a cultural revolution newspaper header of a man running in competitive style. We found it in a book that supplied grass root papers with visuals for column headers in a time where most established newspapers had been closed because of the sensitive political environment.

In 1956 the first official long distance run was organized in Beijing. Participants came from work units from all over the city, and in the old black and white footage of the event you can almost feel the enthusiasm and the spirit that these people took with them in to the streets. According to the the contemporary news reports old ladies would turn their heads and music would be played from mule carts to cheer the runners on. We feel very connected to the 1450 runners that ran that day. In the photos you can see how people brimmed with joy when they launched in to streets. It is some of that spirit of exploration we wish to ignite with the historical runs and we will be back next years with many more running journeys in to the past.
