This Beijing map from 1913 was at its time one of the most accurate depictions of the Chinese capital. On the map you can find the first parliament of China and the presidential residence in Zhongnanhai. These institutions had only just been created after the 6-year-old boy emperor abdicated in 1912.

The map was part of a great Japanese publication called “An official Guide to Eastern Asia Transcontinental Connections between Europe and Asia” in five volumes.

The primary person responsible for this undertaking was Count Shimpei Goto. He was also the first director of the South Mancurian railways would later go on to be governor in Taiwan and minister of colonies in the Japanese government.
