Zhengyangmen, Beijing 1903-1911. The Zhengyangmen was considered the most important entrance to the inner city of old Beijing. Originally, the middle gate was closed
off for imperial use only. Commoners would have to use the informal side gates in the tower. However, after severe damage inflicted upon the gate during the Boxer
Rebellion, the middle gate was opened up for common use and never closed again.
正阳门，拍摄于19世纪90年代。正阳门被认为是老北京进入内城的最重要入口。在过去，中间的大门只供皇室的人通过，老百姓则使用两旁的侧门。但是，在义和团运动中，中间的大门受到了严重损害。从此，中间大门就一直敞开，不再关闭。
