FLAVOR, FUSION, AND MYSTIQUE BY SHANGHAI NATIVE CHRIS ZHU 

Shanghai Native Chris Zhu dreams up a mystical + multi-course menu for a one-of-a-kind chef’s table experience. A Shanghai native, Chris used to be known as Doctor Zhu. But after 7 years in surgery he left the emergency room to pursue his passion in the kitchen. After attending the Cordon Bleu in Shanghai he helped open and served as the executive chef at wine bar + kitchen Bird and its cafe + cocktail sister Bitter. His mission is to marry classic culinary techniques with local Chinese flavors for food that evokes curiosity or nostalgia in his diners.

Before he leaves Shanghai for his next culinary adventure in Australia, Chris will be running a two-day pop up dinner series for Shanghai diners, supported by Taste Collective. 

The series will spotlight his refreshing and singular take on fusion, flavor, and surprise, with each night featuring a unique multi-course menu sewn together by featured ingredients popping up in multitudes of ways. Zhu’s style is inventive, resourceful, and ambrosial - think Sichuan mala foie gras, mud crab claw croquettes, sumac meringue, shiso pesto. Moving between classic French techniques and modern Shanghainese interpretations, May the Force Be With Zhu is an unrivaled opportunity to enjoy a chef’s table hosted by one of Shanghai’s culinary pioneers.

DETAILS 

Dates: Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 August 2019

Time: 7pm

Location: Private kitchen studio in Xujiahui. Diners will receive venue details via email at least 48 hours before the dinner. 

Tickets: 588 RMB for a 12+ course meal, 2 glasses of natural wine from Wine S.N.O.B. and craft Capi sodas

Wine: Add 158RMB for a wine pairing (additional 3 glasses) by Wine S.N.O.B. (Sustainable, Natural, Organic, Biodynamic) 

Please note: 

• 1. Due to the limited-time nature of this dining experience, we are unable to alter the menu to cater for dietary requirements. 
• 2. We have designed this experience to comfortably be enjoyed within a 2-hour period. 
• 3. As this is a social dining experience, we will start dinner service promptly to ensure the best experience for all diners.
• 4. Please book your wine pairing in advance when reserving your place at the table. Wine S.N.O.B. will also be on hand to accommodate a la carte glasses or bottles of wine.
