Students arrive to Sanya and are greeted by our Insight instructors before heading to the Howard Johnson Resort to check in.  After a brief introduction about the week ahead, students spend the afternoon learning about core surfing skills and understanding the history behind this world-renowned sport.

After a hearty breakfast, participants identify where the best entry point is on the beach to begin their lessons.  The day will be spent learning the first step to surfing, take offs, where students are challenged to catch the waves with the assistance of our insight instructors. 

This day is all about solidifying each individual’s take off method and skill before comfortably being able to ride the waves all the way in. 

After having spent a few days on learning how to catch the wave, students spend their time learning surf etiquette and specific technical skills such as how many different turns you can make on the wave and where each turn is appropriate. 

Participants now have a general understanding of the different facets of surfing, this day is really about putting everything they have learned to the test.  Students paddle out, catch and carve the waves unassisted in order to really hone in on their skills. 

Having completed all the skill based surfing lessons over the past week, students will be allowed to surf whichever wave they want in a freestyle surf session and competition before settling down in the evening to reflect on the progress they have made and how they will continue to work towards being a better surfer in the future.  

On the final morning students participate in a surf core relay race before being presented with their individual performance reviews from our insight instructors and an award ceremony on the top surfers during the camp. In the afternoon students pack up say their good byes and head home.
