During last year ‘s FOCAC (FORUM ON CHINA AFRICA COOPERATION)China’s President Xi Jinping pledged $60 billion to African states to boost “100 programs on clean energy, wildlife protection, environmentally friendly agriculture and smart city construction.” The allocations will very much depend on bilateral relations between China and individual African countries. China will ultimately decide.
That means African state leaders and other stakeholders will be competing for these sums of money. The African countries that are most experienced with risk assessment, project management, and how to best engage with Chinese finance will be most likely to reach FOCAC’s announced development goals.
Our speaker Bruno Lhopiteau, founder of China’s largest maintenance consultancy Siveco, will share his experience developing a unique business along the New Silk Road. Based on a long experience of “maintenance with Chinese characteristics”, Siveco has developed a specific approach to address the needs of infrastructure projects in China through the utilization of technological tools. Since 2008 the company enjoys a growing export business, working alongside Chinese construction companies building power plants in Southeast Asia, the Middle-East and… Africa. The presentation will show how early experience in the booming Chinese infrastructure market has led Siveco to support, among other projects in Africa, one of continent’s most ambitious energy program: to meet the increasing demand for electricity, the Algerian government has launched a massive investment program, with an additional 8,400MW of capacity to be connected to the grid between 2015 and 2017. The presentation will touch on many hot topics: “Industry 4.0” technologies, Africa-China relations and western entrepreneurship in China.
Louis-Marie Ebanga, CEO and founder of SHRLOMEN a company based in Cameroon and specialized in electricity and energy projects in Cameroon and on the African continent. Mr. Ebanga is also concentrating his efforts on conducting quality assurance and supply chain management projects for clients in European and emerging markets. He manages projects and a team of engineers who execute quality control engagements for PV modules in factories across China and Southeast Asia. He has completed work on the solar supply chain related to modules, transformers and energy storage solutions. Mr. Ebanga has also been involved in project negotiations with governmental authorities, operational and technical coordination, and international development strategy for entry into new African markets.
