The Harvard Club of Shanghai is honored to welcome Mr. Andrew Chase, Headmaster of Eaglebrook School to Shanghai.
Andrew is currently the Headmaster of Eaglebrook School, an education institution established by his grandfather 97 years ago. Andrew grew up at Eaglebrook, graduated from Williams College and returned to Eaglebrook as Director of Development before taking on the leadership of the school in 2002. In an increasingly divisive world, he is committed to making Eaglebrook a community of inclusion where each child is respected. In 2017, he established The Eaglebrook Middle School Center for Teaching and Learning to explore best practices for educating children during this transformative period of their life.
The goals he set for the Middle School Center aim to help teachers cultivate supportive and caring relationships with students, encourage their initiative, creativity and wellness, teach them skills and values, and prepare them for leadership in a global world.
At this special luncheon, Andrew will give a speech about educating the whole child, character education and social-emotional learning through the lens of Eaglebrook and its mission, followed by Q&A and discussions.
ABOUT EAGLEBROOK
Eaglebrook is a junior high boarding school for boys. In a warm, caring, structured atmosphere, boys learn more than they ever thought possible, discover inner resources, develop self-confidence, and have fun along the way. Eaglebrook welcomes boys of any race, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion, and all share the same privileges and duties.
Eaglebrook’s role is to help each boy come into full and confident possession of his innate talents, to improve the skills needed for the challenges of secondary school, and to establish values that will allow him to be a person who respects individual differences and acts with thoughtfulness and humanity.
At the heart of the school is the shared life of teachers, their families, and boys working together. Teachers make learning an adventure and watch over each boy’s personal growth. They set the academic tone, coach the teams, serve as dormitory parents, and are available for a boy when he needs a friend. They endeavor to motivate boys to reach beyond the easily attained and help them realize that mistakes can lead to progress.
Located in Deerfield, MA, with a campus of 700 rural acres, Eaglebrook School has education young boys for 97 years, and for 90 of those years, 3 generations of Chases have led the school and kept it true to a simple goal: to help each boy be best that he can be. Approx. 25%-30% Eaglebrook graduates are admitted by top ten secondary boarding schools in recent years.
