They stand out in male dominated industries and have become role models to many. It takes courage and devotion to play bigger, which makes the stories of these female industry game changers so powerful and inspirational.

But what made  them who they are today?

This month, we are honored to welcome some extraordinary women from the Shanghai community to share their experiences. Our panel will discuss the challenges they have faced, their biggest success factors and their best tips for anyone considering starting a business or in need of powerful inspiration.

After 12 years of professional combat, Michele retired from the ring to share her passion and expertise. Her Aboro Method + Aboro Ranking System have been designed to create a new generation of boxers/kickboxers, coaches and non-professional fighters of all ages who want to make a difference in the world of combat sports.

Gina Li
CEO & Co-Founder of Beach Creative Technology
2019 Women Leadership Awards Winner, Innovator of the Year 

Born from the Desert of the Gansu Province as an only child, Gina moved alone to Shanghai and graduated in 2007 from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with a major in Business. Having been brought up to be strong and independent, she took her self-belief and became an entrepreneur. After years of working in the financial funding industry, she created her first business in 2010 focusing on marketing and production, channeling her passion to take opportunities, learn and apply her creative mindset to help businesses with their marketing and event needs.

With a great open mind, she had the chance to be exposed to different viewpoints on creativity, business and culture by opening up her own company in the international community in Shanghai – Beach Creative Tech ( www.beachcreative.com). From its humble beginning offering design services, Gina has directed and nurtured Beach into an international team capable of creating the new product innovations across a wide variety of products and industries. The growth of Beach reflects Gina’s unyielding and fearless drive to exceed her and the teams own expectation and strive for greatness. Now, Beach is on the cusp of a level that has launched their own products in CES Las Vegas and worked with a great number of companies that has took innovation to a new market.

Zovi weng
Founder of Shaving in the Dark Comics Collective, Freelance Illustrator and Swing Jazz Musician

Zovi is french-chinese mixed illustrator who works as a Graphic Recorder at EY Shanghai wavespace and freelances for a wide range of projects such as product, content or decoration. She also started a Comics Collective, Shaving in the Dark, that puts out a zine every quarter and organizes monthly Drink&Draw events. On the side, she started a Gypsy Jazz Band, Pourquoi Pas?! That performs for private events as well as open gigs.

Maple Zuo 
Comedian & Founder of Drama Cottage

Maple is the Founder of Drama Cottage, an English Drama Studio in Shanghai. It provides a UK drama program to international schools and centres for kids ages 4 to 12.

She is also a stand up comedian. Through these years she has done headlines shows in Shanghai, Beijing, Wuhan, Shenzhen, and other major cities all cross China. In Shanghai she runs a Comedy Club-China Girls doing high quality comedy shows every month.

She also got invited as the first Chinese comedian to attend the Mongolia international comedy festival. In 2019 Maple got into the final contest in the Thailand International Comedy Competition. Recently she performed in the Philippines and finished her headliner tour across South Korea.
