Note:

This is a 4-hour leisure bike tour covering 15 kilometers in downtown Beijing. Please bring your own bikes or scan a shared one.

Reschedule & Cancellation:

Your ticket can be refunded (minus a 4% processing fee charged by the booking platform) or rescheduled for free if cancelled more than 48 hours before the event. Any cancellation within 48 hours of the event cannot be changed or refunded, but you can transfer the ticket to others.

The event will take place with rain, shine or pollution. But if bad weather really makes the walk impossible we will call you on the day of the tour to let you know it’s been cancelled and reschedule.

This bike journey will trace the long, winding historical road of China’s diplomatic ties with the outside world, through the hutong alleyways of Beijing on bicycles - from the first informal encounters to the establishment of a permanent diplomatic quarter in Beijing to Nixon's famous visit in 1972.

We will start at the old Imperial Observatory, where for many years Jesuit monks served the emperor. The Jesuits were among the first Westerners to gain intimate access to the Chinese imperial government and became an informal diplomatic bridge between China and Europe. After this we will visit the site of the old legation quarter, the site of the first foreign ministry, and much more.

This pop-up bike tour is a crash course in Chinese historical diplomatic relations with the West.
