As part of the 2017 International Alumni Weekend in Beijing, you are invited to join friends and fellow Huskies for an optional two-day excursion to the richly forested mountains of Huairou, October 14–15. You’ll stay at the Brickyard Retreat and enjoy a refreshing taste of Beijing’s golden autumn in the shadow of the Great Wall.
You’ll travel to Huairou from the Marriott Courtyard Beijing Northeast by private bus. When you arrive, you’ll be treated to a Chinese family-style lunch at the Brickyard. After lunch, you’ll tour the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. The tour includes a hike to the No. 10 and No. 8 watchtowers, a cable car to the No. 14 watchtower and a thrilling luge down from the Zhengguan Terrace. Saturday even will offer opportunities to catch up with old and new friends around a bonfire while you enjoy a hearty BBQ dinner.
Sunday will offer a more relaxed pace and give you opportunities to embrace the simple and healthy lifestyle of Huairou. Join a morning yoga session, tour the countryside by bicycle, play a round of pétanque, or soak in a Jacuzzi. After lunch, you’ll return to Beijing by bus.
If you have questions, please call our local support at +861058693772 or email nan.zhang@schsasia.com.

About Mutianyu Great Wall
The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall was first built in Northern Qi (550-577). In Ming Dynasty, General Xu Da constructed the Great Wall on its former base. Mutianyu Pass was built in 1404. This section of the Great Wall was constructed with brick and stone slabs. It features many watchtowers on overlapping mountain ranges to ward off attacks.
There are 23 towers on the Mutianyu Great Wall which snakes over its ridge for about 3000 meters. The watchtowers at the Mutianyu Great Wall are distributed at short intervals and numbered from east to west. The 23rd tower is highest point of the Mutianyu Great Wall.
