Alleyn House
Alleyn House is a comfortable boarding facility conveniently located next to the main teaching wing. The building is equipped with an excellent air filtration system, heating and cooling systems, as well as a secure access control system. A security guard is on-site 24 hours a day, and basic cleaning services will be provided throughout the duration of your stay.

A boarding fapiao can be issued in the name of your school upon request.
Bedrooms
You will be assigned to a single room with en-suite bathroom. The room and bathroom will be cleaned each day by ayis but there will be no room service and participants will have to make your own beds. All bedrooms and common rooms are equipped with air-conditioning; we ask that you switch the AC and lights off whenever you leave the room to help us conserve energy.
Amenities
Toilet paper will be provided in each of the en-suite toilets. The common area contains a hot water dispenser, and a refrigerator. Participants will need to prepare your own towels, slippers, shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste.
Wireless connection and VPN is available in both the teaching wing and boarding house.
Bedding is provided. Please note that beds in China tend to be harder than most westerners are used to.
Electrical Equipment in Rooms
Under no circumstances should cooking equipment be used in bedrooms. The school does not permit irons, mini refrigerators, televisions or cooking appliances within the bedrooms for health and safety reasons. There is a refrigerator in the common room on each floor. DHSZ cannot take any responsibility for the loss or damage of personal items such as laptops and mobile phones; participants have access to locked cabinets in each room to safekeep these valuables.
Clothing and Washing
Participants will have access to washing machines and dryers on each floor.
Insurance
You are advised to arrange insurance cover for your valuables. Please check this has been done as Dulwich International High School Suzhou will not accept any liability for loss or damage of private property.
Security
All visitors will be provided with a pass when you first enter the premises. You are requested to wear your lanyard at all times in the campus and to show it to the guard when re-entering the premises. There are CCTV monitors in public areas on all floors and in the lift. Entry is governed by security cards that are area specific. All emergency exits are alarmed.
Emergency Evacuation
As with all school buildings, the boarding house complies with fire regulations.
Surrounding amenities/entertainment
In addition to Starbucks and local restaurants, western eateries such as Subway, Melrose Pizza and a convenience store are located right across the street. Please take note, however, that opening hours are likely to be shorter than usual during the holidays. The Aeon Shopping Mall is a 10-minute taxi ride away, and Ligongdi – a restaurant and bar area popular among expats – is a 15-minute taxi ride away.
A member of staff will be on-site to provide participants with recommendations and to organize group dinners outside of campus every day. The cost of dinner is not included within the package.
Getting to Suzhou
Suzhou is a city known for its water towns, traditional gardens and temples, as well as the Industrial Park jointly designed by Singapore and Suzhou authorities. The city is located a half-hour away from Shanghai by high-speed train.
To get to Suzhou from outside of China
- You will first have to book a flight to Shanghai Pudong Airport.
To get to Suzhou from Pudong Airport
Step 1
There are several options to get to the train station from the airport. You can:
- Take the airport bus to Shanghai train station; OR (45min – 1 hour)
- Take the subway directly to Hongqiao station; OR (20min – 30min)
- Take the Maglev, a taxi or subway to either station; OR (20min – 40min)
- Take taxi to either station, Shanghai station is closer (20min)
Step 2
You
can then board the high speed train to the Suzhou SIP Station or SuzhouYuanQu
in pinyin.
Step 3
Head to the taxi stand (below ground) and tell the driver you would like to go to 德威国际学校.
When you see this gate please alight and register at the guardhouse on the left hand side.
FAQ
1. Should I book the train tickets to Suzhou in advance?
Yes, please do so to cut down on any unnecessary waiting time at the train station. There are 6 trains to Suzhou on a daily basis. Ask for a first class ticket which costs RMB 6. You can book your ticket using this website: http://english.ctrip.com/trains
2. How long does it take to get to Suzhou from the Shanghai train station
Half
an hour. The taxi ride to the campus is roughly 20 minutes from the Suzhou SIP
station.
3. What happens if I alight at the wrong station and end up in the Suzhou Train Station rather than the Suzhou SIP Station
Not a problem at all. You can still take a taxi to Dulwich; it would just take you 15 minutes longer to reach our campus.
4. Should I print the address in Chinese?
Yes absolutely. Most drivers in China are not able to speak or read English.
