80 Years of Penguin Specials

Penguin Specials fill a gap. Written by some of today’s most exciting and insightful writers, they are short enough to be read in a single sitting – when you’re stuck on a train; in your lunch hour; between dinner and bedtime. Specials can provide a thought-provoking opinion, a primer to bring you up to date, or a striking piece of fiction. They are concise, original and affordable. Each book can be read in a single sitting and yet it takes several months, sometimes even longer, to get a Special to your bookshelf.

To mark 80 years since the first Special was printed, editor Lena Petzke will tell you how they come together, their importance to Penguin China and answer all of your questions concerning the colourful series. Join us as we share some of the stories behind the books.

LENA PETZKE is the editor in charge of Penguin Random House China’s English-language list, publishing a range of China books, which include contemporary Chinese fiction in translation, new voices from all over Asia, and inquisitive non-fiction about the Middle Kingdom.
