Bring the whole family to join fellow Elis and friends on Saturday, October 19th for a day hike inside an exclusive Ming Tomb.  The hike will be inside the Yong Ling (永陵), which is not normally open to the public.  We will have exclusive access to the site on that day and we do not expect strenuous hikes there.

Yong Ling is the second largest among the Ming Tombs.  It is the tomb of the Emperor Jiajing (嘉靖), who ruled from 1521 to 1566. The tomb is well preserved relative to the others and shows a unique attention to detail and building materials. Emperor Jiajing was very extravagant and used his wealth from the revival of trade with the West to decorate his palace. He was an ardent Taoist with a longing for immortality and it was important for him that his spirit lived on in a fitting imperial residence.

The bus departs at 10:00 am sharp from the Agriculture Exhibition Centre in Beijing, on the Third Ring Road near the Great Wall Shearton hotel.  The hike will be finished at about 4 pm, and we expect to be back in Beijing by about 18:00.

What to bring/wear:

  •         Your picnic lunch.  Any food or desert you want to share with others is welcome.
  •         Water.
  •         Comfortable walking shoes and layers of clothing.
  •         Sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat.
  •         Hand sanitizer, wet wipes and tissue papers.

There is a limit of 20 participants (including children).  Please note that we cannot offer refunds if you decide not to attend last minute after making the payment

In case of an adverse weather forecast, the hike will be re-scheduled.
