In the first Sunday of February, Coderbunker will organize an offline game design workshop that aims to deliver generic, genuine and effective game design experience. Unlike typical commercial games in China that focus heavily on profitability and getting people addicted, the workshop would design indie games that are more fun and enjoyable.

Game development requires lots of coding and graphic design, but the true spirit of game design is to make people happy. In face of the huge architecture in commercial video games, game developers and graphic designers can easily be lost and forget their original purpose. This is the reason why you need to learn Rules/Play/Experience (Mechanics-Dynamics-Aesthetics framework), an experience-oriented game design methodology,

In our workshop, you would design a physical game that delivers a specific user experience, like nervousness and excitement. This is way more efficient than the traditional design process that starts from the rule. You can save tons of time in making changes and have more time experimenting, accelerating the process to reach your final product. Great physical game prototypes could be created within 1-2 hours. It’s almost like magic.

We are excited to introduce our host, Tony Shong, indieLight Evangelist who has run this game design workshop 16 times. According to him, 2 of the physical game prototypes come up during the event were made into real video games through open source projects. The workshop requires no technical background, join us if you are one of the following:

- Anyone interested in game design
- Game developers

- Graphic designers

- Board game players
