The COVID-19 pandemic has imposed the greatest challenge to the world economy and its associated geopolitical system since World War II. Focusing on the economic impact and government responses, this talk will cover preliminary evidence on the economic impact of lockdown in China and US, with the emphasis on comparison in different policies and their effectiveness.The potential path of recoveries and the daunting challenges will be discussed, together with pressing issues like emerging market debt and international collaborations.
