Columbus, home of The Ohio State University, beat out 77 other U.S. cities to win the first Smart City Challenge in 2016. With $40 million from the U.S Department of Transportation, and an additional $360 million in pledges raised from local partners, Smart Columbus has a vision that starts with the reinvention of mobility.

China is looking to Smart Cities as a sustainable path to urbanization, to avoid increasingly serious congestion and pollution problems, as well as enhance lifestyles for residents with interconnected technologies. Smart Mobility is the key enabler for a Smart City as it serves as the circulatory system for all vital services to the population. Disruptive new entrants are entering the new game of smart mobility, and are driving innovative solutions by leveraging their vast base of connected users. The traditional automotive value chain will be reshaped by growing on-demand and shared services, which play a critical role in the future smart mobility ecosystem. The ultimate goal of smart mobility is to deliver more efficient people and goods movement, making movement of people and things smooth as the movement of bytes on the internet, through optimal form factors and packet switching network technology

It envisions a new world of mobility that is connected, heterogeneous, intelligent, and personalized (CHIP architecture). It also charts a course for building this architecture using ubiquitous connectivity, electrified and autonomous vehicles, and a marketplace open to innovation and entrepreneurship.

实现零堵车的智慧联通基础设施 A connected smart infrastructure approach towards achieving zero congestion
0 congestion is one of the 3 zero vision which is now be mentioned both by MIIT and GM. Given that other 2 zero (0 crashes, 0 emissions) has relative solution, 0 congestion require a more comprehensive solution. A collaborative vehicle-infrastructure 3.0 platform + AI, big data + cloud computing solution is raised to provide variant services for each congestion causes. With all the industry and government involvement on the platform, 0 congestion vision can be achieved someday in the future.

Recently, electric vehicles are getting a lot of attentions from the public. Initially, this trends were mainly driven by government incentive programs. Now, it is getting strong momentum from private vehicle owners and is on the way to become widely accepted as a new transportation system. Also with strong support from IT and smart technology, battery charging infrastructures and service, used to one of the major stumbling block in market acceptance of EV, are getting better and better. For example, smart phone apps help the EV users to locate the available charging stations and to reserve the spot in a smart way. With electric powered vehicles getting accepted by the public more and more, various styles of creative personal transportation systems are being developed and introduced in the market for testing. These futuristic transportation systems go hand and hand very nicely with the concept of smart city development where city-wide energy managements become more and more critical. In the presentation, introduction of the futuristic personal mobility integrated with smart city concept will be discussed. Furthermore, careful consideration and ideas will be presented to answer this strong increase in electric power demand from the grid.
