The next U.S. president will have to deal with a rising and more active China on a wide range of issues in which the United States, the Asia-Pacific region, and the international community have a stake. U.S.-China relations have long been a mix of competition and cooperation. The challenge facing the next U.S. administration is how to ensure the world’s two largest economies avoid destabilizing competition and even conflict, while deepening their cooperation in areas of common interest.

Elizabeth Economy, director for Asia studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York and a member of Hillary Clinton's Asia Policy Team, will offer her insights into the recent debates taking place in the U.S. on our China policy framework, and what the next U.S. president's approach to China might look like. In addition, Elizabeth will speak about the implications of the election for US-China relations, and why she has decided to support former Secretary Hillary Clinton.
