Even under normal circumstances, many people struggle to get good sleep. With the global coronavirus pandemic, stress and anxiety has increased, routines have been upended, schedules disrupted, and people are not getting enough exercise or sunlight. All these factors have combined to exacerbate what was already an ongoing public health pandemic of sleepiness in the modern world.

We spend nearly a third of our lives sleeping, yet we understand so little about this vital function in our lives. Luckily, there have been tremendous advances in understanding the neurobiology and functions of sleep in the past century.

Dr. Meir Kryger, a physician and professor at Yale who is a noted global authority on sleep, will discuss the importance of sleep and explain why modern society’s collective sleep deprivation was already a public health issue before the pandemic. He’ll describe the impact of the pandemic on sleep and also offer ways to improve your quality of sleep during these stressful times.
