Follow Beijing Postcards into the curved Hutong alleyways around the Dashilar neighbourhood. Along the way, we will discover lanes so narrow that not even the tricycle rickshaws will be able to reach us.
Dashilar was traditionally the “melting pot” of Beijing society. Outside the Qianmen gate storefronts, pawnbrokers, teahouses, and newspaper houses were clustered at the foot of the city wall, creating a sprawled colourful entrance in to the capital.
What will happen to this area in the future? Is preservation a real option or will Dashilar, in the very heart of Beijing, have to cave to developers. Gain a profound understanding of old Beijing during a fun and interesting afternoon.
