Storytelling is a time-honored tradition as old as mankind itself. Stories transcend the bonds of friendship and acquaintance, and bind together groups of people who would otherwise have nothing in common. We are who we are because of the stories that we tell ourselves, and that are told about us. In the 21^st century, the number of tools we have to tell those stories has exploded. Technology has transformed storytelling, with the internet, social media and computers revolutionizing how we tell stories, and who can do it.

Forging a powerful narrative about your product, your service, or even yourself, is a must have skill in the story-driven world of today. Visual storytelling is a key part of spreading that message, and with this workshop you have the opportunity to learn how do just that!

Set yourself apart with silhouettes

Computer animation and 3D cartoons are ubiquitous. In a world where everyone is using the same medium, it can be difficult to stand out if you’re doing the same thing as everyone else. Computer animation, though commonplace today, has really only been around for the past 20 years or so, Animation as an art form, however, has actually been around for far longer. Silhouette animation is where it all began, over 100 years ago!

What will you learn?

Silhouette animation is animation in which the characters are only visible as black silhouettes, conjuring memories of shadows dancing on the wall. Silhouette animation provides a huge amount of freedom and flexibility in character manipulation, and overall story telling. You will get to know the essentials of old-school animation techniques, and develop a deep understanding of silhouette animation in a short time.

3.       How to create engaging works of visual artwork

About the facilitator

Mia Adams (aka Madina) is the founder of Green Sky Animation Studio. A versatile artist who embraces a wide range of techniques, Madina loves working with different mediums to produce vivid works. As a kid while watching Harry Potter she always wondered “why don’t we have the same newspapers with moving photos or paintings with interactive portraits? Or at least landscapes with motion?”. She was tired of motionless “muggle” paintings. Animation helped her to bring some magic into her artwork. Even though painting helped her to express her feelings, it was never enough to tell the whole story. So that’s how she got into animation, and now she’s sharing it with the world!
