Follow on astronomer’s extraordinary journey in the search for 0 Degrees Longitude, where East meets West.

What if stars held memories from the future? Set at a pivotal time in history, Liminal combines star myths with astronomy. In this story of an astronomer lost in the Longitude Problem, we discover there is more to stars than just lights.

This East-West fusion dance and physical theatre piece brings erhu, a traditional Chinese musical instrument, to new audiences. Jazz dancer Cheng and erhu musician Chen Xiyao take us on a journey through memories that radiate from stars.

British born Chinese director Chan Vi delves into concepts of home and heritage, and how they are shaped by human journeys. Inspired by Vi’s own family’s voyage to the UK, ‘Liminal’ explores the universal challenges of migration and identity.

Audiences will be invited to to take part in a live remixing experiment of erhu score 烛影摇红 Candle Shadow Flickers Red using a special deck of playing cards.

We will have an open rehearsal of 'Liminal' on Monday 22 July 3pm in downtown Shanghai. If you are interested in attending, please contact us. Entry is free but there is limited audience capacity. You will be contacted on 21 July if you have been successful in obtaining a seat.
