Join us for a lively primer and debate on blockchain technologies. Our discussion will cover the basics of this new technology, what moves the markets and the forces at play, and the outlook for this fledgling industry. We’ll also touch upon data mining and application to specific industries, including real estate.


Bobby Lee, co-founder of China’s first bitcoin exchange, and Zennon Kapron, a leading Asia-based consultant on financial technology, will be our panelists.


This event is co-sponsored by the Stanford Alumni Association Shanghai Club and ULI Young Professionals Group.

About the speakers:


Zennon Kapron is the founder and Director of Kapronasia, one of Asia’s leading providers of research and consulting services focusing on the financial industry and financial technology. Mr. Kapron is also author Chomping at the Bitcoin: The Past, Present and Future of Bitcoin in China (Penguin). He has been published in numerous publications including the WSJ, the NYT, the Economist and Bloomberg. He is a regular participant in industry events both in Asia and globally and has testified in front of the Congress on issues of China fintech. Before Kapronasia, Zennon worked for Intel in Shanghai and was the CIO for Citigroup Portugal. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from Syracuse University and an MBA from INSEAD.


Bobby Lee was the CEO and co-founder of BTCC (formerly BTCChina), the first bitcoin exchange in China and the leading bitcoin financial platform worldwide. Before BTCC, Mr. Lee was vice president of technology for Walmart’s e-commerce business in China. Previously he was the CTO of SMG BesTV New Media, the largest IPTV operator in China with the most subscribers globally. He moved to Shanghai in 2007 and started off at EMC’s China center of excellence as Director of Software Engineering, with responsibilities for cloud computing and cloud storage. Mr. Lee started off his career in Silicon Valley as a software engineer at Yahoo and led the development of the earliest online communities. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science from Stanford University, and earned an EMBA from CEIBS in China. Mr.Lee currently serves on the board of Bitcoin Foundation, and enjoys traveling, photography, watching movies and playing poker.
