Maestro Hu will give a talk about the fundamental qualities of music. The talk will focus primarily on Beethoven’s work, as his music is known for being profound and courageous. Through live music performance, Maestro Hu will explain the basic elements of music and help the audience cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the joys that music brings.

Hu Yongyan is the Artistic Director of China's Orchestra Academy at the Central Conservatory of Music. Mr. Hu began his formal studies at China's prestigious Central Conservatory of Music, after which he studied at Yale University and at the Juilliard School, where he received a master’s degree. He served as Music Director and Conductor of the Lincoln, Nebraska Symphony Orchestra from 1993 to 1998 and also of the Duluth, Minnesota Symphony Orchestra from 1995 to 2000. After returning to China, he served as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Shanghai Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. He also led the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra on an acclaimed European tour as well as served as Principal Conductor of the China National Symphony Orchestra, leading its first visit to South Korea and Taiwan. In 2004, his alma mater, the Central Conservatory of Music, invited him to establish Asia's first Orchestra Academy.

著名音乐家胡咏言现任中央音乐学院乐队学院院长。胡先生曾就读于中央音乐学院，后赴耶鲁大学和朱丽亚音乐学院深造并取得朱丽亚音乐学院硕士学位。胡咏言曾任上海广播交响乐团（现上海爱乐乐团）音乐总监和首席指挥，还曾于1995年至2000年、1993年至1998年，分别担任过美国明尼苏达州德鲁斯交响乐团和内布拉斯加州林肯交响乐团的音乐总监与指挥。他还担任过中国国家交响乐团的首席指挥，并分别带领乐团第一次访问韩国和台湾以及带领上海交响乐团作欧洲巡演等演出活动。2004年应母校中央音乐学院邀请创办亚洲第一所乐队学院。
