THE SHANGHAI RESTORATION PROJECTTHE CLASSICS》

THE SHANGHAI RESTORATION PROJECT <THE CLASSICS> CHINA TOUR - BEIJING

The Shanghai Restoration Project is often described as a group that creates high-energy electronic beats rooted in modern day Chinese culture. Mirroring his personal development as a musician, Chinese-American producer and founder Dave Liang thrives at introducing Chinese instruments and sensibilities into Western sounds—from classical to jazz to pop to hip-hop. Following the success of their 2014 China tour, producer Dave Liang and Jamahl Richardson return to China in 2015 with the talented jazz singer Zhang Le. In addition to their most popular tunes, they’ll be performing songs from their latest release The Classics as well as several unreleased original songs. Live performances synchronize their signature blend of electronica, rap, improvisation, and jazz vocals with animated projections, creating a multilayered experience that transcends space, time, and cultural boundaries.

Dave Liang (keyboard, vocals) is the Emmy winning creator and producer of The Shanghai Restoration Project. His projects have been featured on NPR, BBC, The New York Times, and Last Call with Carson Daly. He has performed at the Sundance Film Festival, MASS MoCA, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. In addition to his production work for artists on his own label Undercover Culture Music, Liang has also worked with artists on Bad Boy, Warner, and Universal. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Jamahl Richardson (electronics, keyboards, MC) performs with The Shanghai Restoration Project during live shows. Independently, he is an accomplished composer and producer whose music has been licensed to ESPN, NBC, UNICEF, and Bravo. In 2011, he wrote and produced the music for the documentary “Third and Long,” which aired on CBS and The NFL Network. In addition to his musical projects, Richardson is also a professional photographer and videographer who has directed and shot videos on multiple continents. His videos have aired on both MTV and VH1. He lives in Brooklyn, NY.

Zhang Le (vocals) has been described by by Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) as "a rising young star with a remarkable gift." Her innovative blend of traditional Chinese folk songs and modern jazz have captured the attention of American and Chinese audiences alike. A graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, she is a past winner of the Sir Roland Hanna Memorial Award for Jazz Performance in NYC. An accomplished arranger and vocalist, her latest release The Classics reached the Top 10 Jazz albums on iTunes and was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered in the US.
