Janibek, 9-year old, lives with his family in Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. His first love is racing horses, but this winter, his father will bring him on the toughest journey in a nomad’s life: the winter migration. The Altai is gripped by a “zhut”, a hard winter that blocks the passes and threatens to wipe out the family’s only possession: their animals.

And it has recently premiered at Banff Film Festival and Kendal Mountain Film Festival. It is directed by Niobe Thompson, a Canadian anthropologist and documentary film maker.

Following the screening of Boy Nomad, veteran Tour Leader Rich Beal will host a discussion about life in Mongolia. With over a decade of travel to the country and deep personal connections, Rich will tell the audience about what nomadic life is really like, local customs such as eagle hunting and horse riding, how local people traverse the fearsome landscape and anything else that the audience is interested in.
