About this class

Inventions! Kids will explore engineering and what it takes to create their own product. With 3D printing, kids now have an opportunity to bring their ideas to life. Using 3D printers and design software kids can create their ideas and almost instantly test them out in solid, stable prototypes. In this day-long workshop students will work together in teams and learn about the process of 3D Printing from expert designers and educators before designing their very own projects in 3D. And yes, each student will leave the room with their own prints, free of charge: everything is included in the training fee. Additionally students will gain exposure to the main facets of 3D Printing including design, 3D Modelling, preparing the file for print, and finally, 3D Printing.

Prereqs & Preparation

Teachers:

Ami Nigam

Architect, Designer

Ami is an Indian architect currently practicing in Beijing and has worked in Architecture and Design for over 5 years in cities like London, Bombay and Beijing. He is a graduate from the Arts University Bournemouth, an Experimental Design school in the UK. He has always been interested in the conversation between old and new, rich cultural heritage and contemporary technologies.

David Doepel

Designer, Cultural Educator

David is an Austrian designer, his installation was a part of the Beijing Design Week in 2014. He has been involved in Chinese Cultural Education with Courtyard Institute over the last year. He is a graduate from the Vienna School of Business and comes with a deep understanding of Chinese Cultural Design traditions.

Leandro Rolon

Architect, Designer

Leandro is an American architect and designer with over 10 years of 3D Printing expertise. Throughout his career he has contributed to the realization of numerous large-scale projects spanning a total of four continents and hosted numerous 3D printing events in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Beijing. He is a graduate from The Southern California Institute of Architecture (sci-ARC), which is widely regarded as one of the most avant-garde U.S. architecture schools, with a reputation for pushing the boundaries of academic study and design.

Fu Jian 

Educator, Engineer 

Fu Jian graduated from Renmin University of China and taught middle school science in Yunnan and Guangdong Province after graduation. Currently he is a software engineer in a startup company. He has a wide interest including STEM education, web technology and Design thinking skills.

一起发明创造吧！在这个工作坊，孩子们能够探索3D打印并且利用3D打印创造自己的作品。孩子们能够利用3D打印将自己的想法带入现实。通过使用3D打印机和设计软件，孩子们能够实验他们的想法并通过可以触摸的实体的原型进行测试。在这个全天的工作坊中，孩子们通过团队合作，和设计师以及教育者学习3D打印设计过程。是的！每个学生都能够在工作坊结束时拿到自己的3D打印作品（这些都包括在课程费用中）。并且学生有机会了解到3D打印的方方面面：设计过程，3D建模，准备打印文件，以及3D打印。

Ami是一名印度建筑师，曾经在伦敦，孟买工作，现居北京，并且已经在建筑设计领域工作5年多了。他毕业于英国伯恩茅斯艺术大学的实验设计学院。他兴趣广泛包括：新老事物的交融，文化遗产以及现代技术。

David Doepel 

设计师，文化教育者 

David 是一名来自奥地利的设计师，他曾经参与过2014年北京设计周，去年一直在四合书院从事中国文化教育工作。他毕业于维也纳商学院，对于中国传统文化中的设计有深入理解。

建筑师，设计师 

 Leandro是一名来自美国的建筑师和设计师，接触3D打印超过10年。在他的职业生涯中，他在世界各地参与过各种大型项目的设计工作并且在洛杉矶，迈阿密，纽约和北京都举办过3D打印活动。他毕业于南加州设计学院，这所学校以推动学术和设计闻名，是全美建筑学院的先锋代表。

教育者，工程师

付剑毕业于中国人民大学，毕业后曾经在云南和广东地区教授中学科学。现在他是一家创业公司的软件工程师。他兴趣广泛，包括科技教育，网络技术和创意思维方法。
