Adding new code or changing the old code in an application is difficult and stressful because it often means breaking the application. But it doesn’t have to be this way. In this workshop, we’ll learn techniques for introducing new code into a Python application without breaking existing functionality.


AGENDA


  • 1. Environment setup
  • 2. Introduction to the problem with a demonstration
  • 3. Introduction to the solution(s) with a demonstration
  • 4. Guided activity with pair programming
  • 5. Review
  • 6. QA and feedback for the presenter


REQUIREMENTS


Be comfortable with:

  • command-line (terminal / bash / shell) cd, mkdir, ls, pwd, python repl, touch
  • Bring a Windows 8 or MacOS El Capitan computer
  • Docker for mac, Docker for Windows, or have completed coder bunker docker workshop
  • Python 3+ interpreter
  • We will not be learning how to write python in this workshop, so you should 


Meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be able to create a json file containing a single array of words. 

Write a python application that:

 1. reads the array of words from the json file into memory

 2. checks if those words are palindromes
 3. pushes the palindromes onto another array
 4. writes that array to file as json.
  • Have completed a programming boot camp or a 4-year computer science related degree
  • Have python programming experience
