Umoja!

The Collective, a non profit collaboration between Black Woman in Beijing, BLK GEN, Ambush Entertainment, the Caribbean Committee and Africa 2.0 is please to present Umoja. In Kiswahili, Umoja means oneness and unity and that is the spirit that this unique two day event came from. Born out of the desire to bring wechat conversations and connections to life and bring the larger community together, these five dynamic organizations have teamed up to bring you an amazing two day event. Running from May 28th to 29th, this is an event that the community in Beijing, let alone China, has not yet seen! The Collective is putting the call out for all parts of the Community to come together for two enriching days of unity, dialogue, creative expression, laughter, and remarkable food. 

Pamoja

On Day 1, Sunday, May 28th, join us at 'Pamoja' for dialogue and artist expression. The night starts with a vibrant discussion, seeking to tackle some of the sticky questions about black identity and the question 'What does it take to be one community in China?" After a thoughtful discussion, some of the community's most talented artist will take to stage, highlighting the gifts and talents that are all around us.

The Picnic

On Day 2, Monday, May 29th, it is time for us to have 'The Retreat'. With games, good, and good vibes, The Retreat transports you from bustling Beijing to a little piece of home. Come, expression the fellowship and unity the community has to offer. We will also feature a number of small business, so it is a great chance to build both community and your network. With some of the city's top caterers pitching in, great games, outstanding vendors, and a touch of melanated magic, this is sure to be an event to remember. Get ready to take a retreat from China life and refresh yourself.

Pre-ordering for catering ends on Thursday, May 25, 2017. After the pre-order period ends, there will not be any onsite catering provided, so bring your best dish for yourself or to share. 

The After Party

What is a good time without a another good time. After two days of great events, rich conversation and culture, it is time to celebrate. Get dressed up and turn out for an after party you won't soon forget.
