Summary of the talk:

Author Brian Page talks about the new edition of Beijing Then and Now, which matches historical images -- including some of the very first photographic views of the city -- with specially commissioned photographs of the same sites today to explore the dramatic process of urban landscape change occurring overtime.  The talk will focus on both the benefits and challenges of using this method of repeat photography to document Beijing’s transformations.

        About the Author:

Brian Page is a professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver.  He has a PhD in Geography from the University of California at Berkeley and specializes in research on the historical development of urban places using archival methods, field study, and geospatial science.  He became captivated by China at a young age through the past experiences of his family; his grandparents lived in China from 1915 to 1949, and his mother was born and raised there.
