Open your eyes to the unknown.

The 19th C!Talk Beijing gathers four different visual artists to present their multimedia documentary works to the Beijing community:

Viktoriya Kim (Uzbekistan) will reveal the true tale behind the tragic past of Korean diaspora in past Soviet Union. Tarik Nuñez (Ecuador) will unveil the stories of numerous street artists he met during his travels. Monika Luka (Poland) will share snapshots of traditions and everyday life in China. Yao Liyao (China) will show you hidden gems of his hometown, Nanjing.

About presentations:

Tarik Núñez - INFAUSTOS  (“the infamous”)
Born in Ecuador, Tarik is a documentary filmmaker and curator, passionate about urban and street art.
During his world travels, Tarik creates his project INFAUSTOS, where he records the life of various street artists that re-invent a place through art and their presence, giving a new significance and atmosphere to the urban space creating the concept of “imaginary”: given to spaces and people who give a new identity to the city, a new meaning. Through use, the shape humans have upon a determined place, establishing a memory there, is associated to art.

Monika Luka - '10 seconds of my day'
Originally from Poland, Monika lived in London for 10 years, before moving to Beijing, with a goal to learn more about cultural differences and experience new perspective on life, arts and design.
Here in China, she made a documentary movie project '10 seconds of my day', where she captures traditions and everyday life in China. Through her work, she invites others to be more open to the environment we are in, and take a few moments to observe street-life. “It is easy to complain, but when you give it a chance, and appreciate each moment in life, it can make you happier."

Yao Liyao  -  绒庄街17号   (No.17 Rongzhuang Rd.)
Yao Liyao is a graduate student of Photography at the Beijing Film Academy.

His short film takes you through the old areas disappearing in his hometown - Nanjing, where you meet an old traditional barber and his unique techniques from the past – a culture that disappears together with the demolishing of Nangjing’s Xiangzi (hutongs).  “I wanted to record this old traditional craft, record the disappearing old allies, and through this, reflect on the changes in our society."

Viktoriya Kim - Lost and Found in Uzbekistan: The Korean Story
A Beijing-based writer and multimedia documentary storyteller, Viktoriya is originally from Uzbekistan, but lived in different continents for the past decades.
Her multimedia documentary narrative is about a unique community of Uzbek Koreans, that tells a hidden and true tale of a diaspora that was forced to come to a foreign country under very dramatic circumstances back in 1937. Through personal stories of three generations in the family through a major character, as well as through her own memories about her grandfather, she unveils the details of a tragic past not to be forgotten or ever repeated again.

The event will also feature photo exhibition "Smiles of Angkor children" by Tracy Cen.
